Nancy Canning on Getting A Life-Between-Lives Regression

BOB OLSON: Today I am interviewing Nancy Canning who is a "Life-Between-Lives Spiritual Regression" practitioner. I've had a couple regression sessions with Nancy, so I'm quite excited to be able to ask her some questions about this rare and unusual experience. Why don't we begin, Nancy, by telling people what a Life-Between-Lives Spiritual Regression (LBL) actually is?

NANCY CANNING: In a Life-Between-Lives Spiritual Regression (LBL) you relax in deep hypnosis and move back through time to your most recent past life. After briefly reviewing your former life, you move through the time of your death (you feel no pain or discomfort) and then journey on into the spirit world.

This particular type of spiritual regression is a journey of the life in-between lives. During the LBL, you remember how it is to be an immortal soul. You feel spiritual love and peace such as is not typically known in mortality. Typically, you meet with your guides and souls you tend to incarnate with over and over. You meet with your Counsel of Elders; those very wise Beings who help you determine your path and the lessons you chose to learn through all your lives. It is an incredible opportunity to experience your spiritual life in this peaceful, empowering place on the other side of death.

BOB: How does a life between lives regression differ from a past life regression?

NANCY: In a conventional past life regression, you recall your experiences on earth in a previous life. You recall who you were; personal and physical traits and circumstances such as whether you were male or female; where you lived and when; details about your family; significant events and decisions; and many other details of a time and place you were once very familiar with. You may also experience certain deep emotions - sadness and joy and love - as you review the scenes of your past. The past life regression only deals with lives you've lived, not the in-between lives soul state.

BOB: How did you get interested in this work? How long have you been doing it?

NANCY: I have been involved in spiritual communication and counseling since the early 1980s, when I was at the Berkeley Psychic Institute in California. I read auras, past lives, and did energetic healings. I noticed the themes people carried from one life to the next and it set me to thinking about how we carry lessons to learn from one life to the next. Then, in 1998 I read a wonderful life-changing book. Journey of Souls by Dr. Michael Newton. Newton is the pioneer in this work of studying what happens in between lives. He has taken over 7000 clients through that experience in the spirit world. While reading his book, I realized that I had to have that experience for myself. I also had a strong impression that I was born to guide people through similar experiences. Actually, it was much stronger than just an impression. Intuitively, I knew that my 18 years of training up to that point had been preparation for me to guide others on their own journeys into the spirit world.

I was on Dr. Newton's waitlist for two years for my journey, which was well worth the wait. I had my journey in November 2000 and experienced a profound shift in my self-identity. It felt as though a piece of the puzzle of my life was suddenly in place, a hole inside was filled, and I no longer had to wonder why I'm here or what this life is about. For the first time, I felt a tremendous freedom to be me. I knew on a very deep level, in my soul, that at this end of this current life I'll be returning "home" to those Spirits who unconditionally love and accept me. 

When I was finishing my second journey, my Council told me "see you again in a few years." So I expect this to be ongoing as my life continues to change.

BOB: What do you, the facilitator/practitioner, experience during the process? Are all life between lives practitioners the same?

NANCY: I am honored and deeply touched during each life between lives session - to have the opportunity to journey with you into the spirit world. While I don't see what you see, I use my clairvoyant abilities to stay in touch with your spirit guides and Council. Energetically I am very involved. During a client's profound realizations and experiences, I am often deeply moved. It's fabulous for me to have this experience again and again! 

All certified practitioners are specifically trained for this work, but as in any other profession skill levels and expertise vary widely. Since I'm also a therapist with three years of graduate study in counseling psychology, and a clairvoyant, [let's re-work this a bit] I'm able to bring 24 years of experience into this work. Other practitioners have their own areas of experience.

One of the things to look for in a practitioner is a feeling of connection and trust. This is a spiritual journey, guided by spirit. Trust that you are guided in the right direction, but also use common sense in selecting a practitioner. Ask for references. Check them out. Consider their background, and experience; how many years have they been doing life between life regressions? How many have they done? Sometimes it's worth it to travel a distance to the one you feel drawn to, as she/he may very well have the expertise that you need.
